Rehabilitation services

We the People United for Change, Inc. (WTPUFC) operates as a nonprofit community development organization dedicated to the people and driven by those with lived experience of homelessness. Our organization works on behalf of the community to redevelop communities, addressing immediate needs based on community input. We engage with and become part of each community, preventing gentrification of communities targeted by for-profit developers. Instead, we provide affordable housing options leading to long-term homeownership, job opportunities, and generational wealth. We also establish educational and recreational facilities to empower the community. Join us in making a difference.

Current Projects

See how we're making a difference in Baltimore, Maryland through innovative rehabilitation projects like New Era Academy and Dr. Carter G. Woodson initiatives.

New Era Academy

The New Era Academy transformation plan focuses on securing the property, assessing the building’s condition, and engaging the Cherry Hill community to identify priority uses. After evaluating redevelopment options—such as an education or workforce center, a community services hub, or mixed-use development—the next steps include securing funding, beginning necessary renovations, and establishing long-term management to ensure the site remains safe, functional, and beneficial to the community.

Dr. Carter G. Woodson project

The transformation plan for Dr. Carter G. Woodson focuses on stabilizing the building, addressing long-standing safety hazards, and preparing the site for future community-driven redevelopment. The first steps include fully securing the property, repairing access points, cleaning debris, and preventing continued vandalism or unauthorized entry. Once secured, the building will undergo a full assessment to determine structural needs, utility conditions, and redevelopment feasibility. Community input from Cherry Hill residents will guide the vision for reuse—whether as an educational or vocational space, a community services center, a youth development hub, or another purpose that directly benefits families. After a clear direction is established, the plan advances to securing funding, launching renovations, and establishing sustainable management to ensure the property remains safe, viable, and aligned with long-term community goals.
